    Goals & Objectives

Goal 1: To Increase Following Directions for Specified Durations

Objective 1.1: When presented with an improvisation activity and a verbal cue to play his provided instrument, student J. will start playing as specified: play instrument, play soft, play loud for at least 5 seconds, and stop playing- for at least 80% of opportunities. (Instruments include: drum, shaker, xylophone, frog castanet, and claves.)

Goal 2: To Increase The Number Of Independent Leisure Skills By Increasing Attention Span Through The Acquisition Of Musical Skills On Specified Instruments

Objective 2.1: Given an adapted songbook and a guitar with a Chord Buddy device, to facilitate the playing of four different chords by color coordination, student J. will learn new songs and play for the duration of any given song of his choice.  Data will be collected through seconds per interaction to track increase of music skill set and attention span. (Duration in seconds will be divided by the frequency of the breaks in attention.)

Objective 2.2: When presented with an adapted piano and songbook, student J. will play the piano by identifying colors and letters assigned to note names from the songbook and then match those colors to the corresponding colored and named piano keys, for the duration of the song of his choice.  Data will be collected through seconds per interaction to track increase of music skill set and attention span.  (Duration in seconds will be divided by the frequency of the breaks in attention.)

    Goal 3: To Increase Communication

Objective 3.1: During music therapy, J. will communicate his wants or needs by using his voice to complete a word strip sentence with no more than one verbal prompt, or say a three to four-word phrase for 80% of the time.  (.2 for each completed trial. # of attempts achieved will be divided by # of opportunities given.)
